An extra-ordinary musical evening to commemorate tabla maestro Ustad Alla Rakha in the city

Pune, April 23, 2018: A magical mix of tabla, flute and classical singing will soon mesmerize the music lovers in the city. The music concert to celebrate the birth anniversary of exemplary tabla maestro Ustad Alla Rakha is organised by ‘Sa Va Ni’ Sursangeet. This event will be held at Lokshahir Annabhau Sathe Natyagruha, Padmavati on Sunday, April 29 at 6 pm and it is open to all for free.

Surendra Mohite, founder, ‘Sa Va Ni’ Sursangeet Institute shared this information. The combination of Taal Yogi Pt Suresh Talwalkar, Satyajit Talwalkar and Savani Talwalkar on table will be the highlight of this concert. Milind Kulkarni on Harmonium and Nagesh Adgaonkar with vocals will support the composition. It will the very first time that Punekars will witness such mystical music trio (Triveni Sangam). To glorify the event further, a flute performance of Pravin Godkhindi, renowned flute player accompanied by Ojas Adhiya, youngest table player. Also, a performance by Gandhar Deshpande, a young classical singer will be accompanied by Swapnil Bhise on Tabla and Milind Kulkarni on harmonium. This program is supported by Lokmanya Multipurpose and Saraswat Bank.

Speaking about Ustad Alla Rakha, Surendra Mohite said, “Pt. Ravi Shankar and Ustad Alla performed many Indian classical music concerts in India and abroad in the 1950’s and 60’s. It was because of Ustad Alla Rakha’s efforts of experimenting and including table along with other musical instruments like Sitar, Sarod, that the table got recognition. It was Ustad who started the method of syncing the musicpresented by the main artist with his table tunes and taking it forward.
