New Delhi, 9th October 2021: Google has officially released the next version of Android – Android 12. The company has left the source code of Android 12 to AOSP (Android Open Source Project) and is planning to push the update to Google Pixel devices, which is likely to be out in the next few weeks.

Android 12 is the next major release in the Android OS. The update comes with a visual revamp that includes a new Material U theme, a re-designed notification, a new privacy dashboard, privacy indicators and more.

When Android 12 will release?
Google has “officially” released Android 12. The update follows the fifth beta released in September. Although the source has been put on AOSP, Pixel devices are yet to receive their first stable update to Android 12. According to Google, Samsung, OnePlus, Oppo, Realme, Tecno, Vivo and Xiaomi will get Android 12 later this year. When the Android 12 update will arrive for your device completely depends on your Smartphone manufacturer.

The chances of your device getting the update will also depend on the updated policy for your specific device i.e. whether the device is eligible for the update or not. The speed at which the Android 12 update is arriving will depend on whether it is a high-end Smartphone and/or whether it has been released recently.

After the Android 12 launch, Pixel devices will be the first to receive the Android 12 update. According to Google, the roll-out of the stable version of Android 12 for the Pixel lineup will begin “in the next few weeks”.

One of the biggest features of Android 12 is the Game Mode which is under the newly introduced Game Dashboard. This mode enables users to switch the performance profile while using the phone for gaming sessions. Some games have now rolled out support for the new Game Mode API in Android 12 including Minecraft, Temple Run 2, and Sniper 3D. With Android 12 coming, users will be able to tell whether a game supports Game Mode in the game dashboard.

Google’s VP of Engineering for Android Dave Burke announced on Twitter that Android 12 is codenamed Snow Cone. Burke also shared a photo showing the official Android icon sitting on several ice cream cones.
