Pune, October 14, 2020: The Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune conducted undergraduate medical research conference Illuminati on October 11th. First conceived in 2009, it has grown by the year to become one of the biggest undergraduate medical conferences in India.

Every year, Illuminati witnesses over 700 delegates from more than 60 medical colleges from all over India participating in events including paper and poster presentations, quizzes and debate. This year, due to the Covid pandemic and travel restrictions, the event was held online. Maj Gen RM Gupta, VSM, Dean & Deputy Commandant, AFMC gave the inaugural address. He praised the undergraduates from across the country for their enthusiastic response.

The event saw more than 500 registrations and more than 150 scientific papers and posters from students all over the country. The theme of this year’s Illuminati was ‘Covid 19 Pandemic’. The most interesting segment was the one on ideation. The students were asked to submit novel ideas on ‘Resetting the post pandemic world’ and ‘Medical education post pandemic’. The prize winning entries discussed developing easy to use mobile applications for ‘Rehabilitation of patients with Covid’ and ‘Addressing mental health during Covid’.

Earlier in the day experts from various fields of medicine conducted a workshop on ‘Managing a Pandemic’. This was followed by a virtual tour of a Covid Hospital to orient the medical undergraduates about the intricacies involved in setting up and managing patients with Covid.
