Army officer commits suicide by shooting himself at Air Force Station in Pune

Pune, May 24 -An Army Junior Commissioned Officer Subedar Beant Singh posted to the Field Post Office located at Air Force Station in Lohegaon, Pune was found dead in his room today.  He hailed from Himachal Pradesh and lived alone here.

Singh has blamed a warrant officer for ruining his life by leveling baseless allegations against him.

He has also asked two colonel, two subedar and a captain to give ‘claim’ (amount) to his children.

The incident came to light around 11 am on Tuesday.

“His body was found with two bullet holes and a civil revolver lying by his side.  A suicide note was found near his dead body.  Prima facie it appears to be a case of suicide.  The next of kin has been informed.  Investigation by Civil and Military Police is on,” IAF stated in a press release.

Senior police Inspector Sanjay Kurundkar, in charge of Vimantal police station, said, “The body has been sent to Armed Forces Medical College for post mortem which will be done tomorrow after his family members reach Pune.”

When asked about FIR against the accused officer for abetment of suicide, Inspector Kurundkar added, “As of now we have registered a case of accidental death (AD). Further action will be taken after investigation.”
