Pune, October 27, 2020: While many students at the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) successfully completed their final year examination, non-final year students are still awaiting clarity on allowed to keep terms (ATKT) examinations.

Frustrated, several students took it to social media sites to share their worries. “Our ATKT exams should have happened by May 2020 if the situation was normal, and we would have cleared the ATKTs, but due to COVID, exams were canceled & only regular semester subjects were passed based on a formula as made by the university without the exam”, stated a statement by SPPU Year Down Students Union.

The statement further reads, “Other states took exams of all students, be it Final year or NON – Final year ATKT ones. NON – FINAL YEAR students lost a chance to clear ATKT exams in MAY 2020 & our exams are still pending, due to which we cannot apply to Internships, Government exams like CDS, AFCAT, INET, GATE, ARMY SSBs, etc. Many of us are losing on placements as well”.

A second-year ATKT student who didn’t wish to be named said, “We are still being asked to wait for colleges to reopen when seven months have passed. Also, nobody knows when will colleges reopen due to this corona situation. Now we have a lot of burden due to the pending ATKT exams and Regular semester subject exams.”

Vaibhav Edke, president of Maharashtra Students Welfare Association(MSWA), said, “For the last six months, the students of Non-Final ATKT are in a state of confusion as no schedule for examination has been sent to them. However, the government has announced that the exam should be conducted within 120 days after the commencement of the college. We demand that the examinations should be conducted in an open book, google form or assignment based system in view of the current situation.”

Speaking to Punekarnews.in, Mahesh Kakade, Director of Examination and evaluation SPPU, said, “We have a board meeting which will be conducted tomorrow. In this meeting, the decision regarding Non-final year ATKT students will be taken, which will be headed by the Vice-Chancellor Nitin Karmalkar. The exam can be conducted for non-final year students between November 17 to November 28, and we will be ready to publish the result in the month of December. However, the final decision will be updated shortly to the students.”
