Pune, 25th November 2025: Amid circulating rumours of a leopard sighting on the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) campus, the university administration has activated precautionary measures and issued alerts to students, residents, and teaching and non-teaching staff. As part of the safety initiative, an awareness workshop on precautions related to leopard movement was conducted at the Jaykar Library auditorium from 3:15 pm to 4:15 pm.
During the session, Forest Department officer Krishna Hake and rescue team member Kiran Rahilkar briefed participants on leopard behaviour, movement patterns, conflict prevention, and essential safety guidelines for those moving around the campus. Director of the Jaykar Knowledge Resource Center, Dr. Desale, along with over 200 students, faculty members, and security staff, attended the workshop.
Following the workshop, the university issued a circular advising all departments, employees, and students to avoid unnecessary movement, travel in groups, and immediately inform the Forest Department in case of any confirmed sighting. Emergency contact numbers of the Forest Department and the University Security Department have been shared.
The administration has also urged everyone not to circulate unverified photos, videos, or messages on social media. Stakeholders have been asked to act responsibly to avoid panic and help maintain campus safety and biodiversity protection.
