Baba Kalyani Inaugurates New Science Park Building At Pune University

Pune, 28th February 2022: The Science Park under Center for Science Education and Communication (CSEC) in Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) today shifted to a new building. It was inaugurated today on the occasion of National Science Day by Chairman of Bharat Forge, Baba Kalyani.

 

Earlier the science park was spread over 3500 sq ft while the new building has 15,000 sq ft space.

 

Padmabhushan awardee Kalyani said, “I am happy to be involved in this initiative which was started to inculcate interest in science among students.”

 

“In the past, a lot of experiments were being done in mathematics but now it is being reduced. We are discussing starting a Maths Museum at the university, it will be announced soon”, he added.

 

SPPU Vice-Chancellor Nitin Kalmarkar, Managing Director of Persistent Systems Dr Anand Deshpande and Founder-Chairman of Praj Industries Pramod Chaudhari were also present for the event.

 

Vice Chancellor Kalmarkar said, “We need to think about how we can solve society’s problems through science and research. For this research and experiments are required.”

 

There was also a prize distribution ceremony where the chief guests gave prizes to students for winning science competitions held by Science Park a few days ago. The competitions included model making quiz, 3D printing etc. Apart from this, there was a physics and biology exhibition where students presented their models before the guests and demonstrated the working of their models.

 

Science Park coordinator Dr Dilip Kanhare said, “The CSEC was established in 2014 with the objective of creating a spirit of inquiry in young minds. CSEC houses more than 500 kits, interactive exhibits, demonstration experiments and innovative do-it-yourself laboratories in all the branches of science. The CSEC will enable students to learn principles of science through experiments and not just theory.”
