New Delhi, 25th August 2025: Bank holidays in India are determined by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), and these can vary across states and cities due to regional and local festivals. While banks are usually open on Mondays, this week sees certain closures that customers should be aware of to avoid inconvenience.

Bank Holiday Schedule for This Week:
August 25 (Monday): Banks in Guwahati, Assam will remain closed on account of Tirubhav Tithi of Srimanta Sankardev. Banks in other parts of the country will operate normally.

August 27 (Wednesday): Banks in Ahmedabad (Gujarat), Belapur, Mumbai and Nagpur (Maharashtra), Bengaluru (Karnataka), Bhubaneswar (Odisha), Chennai (Tamil Nadu), Hyderabad (Telangana), Panaji (Goa), and Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh) will be closed for Ganesh Chaturthi, Samvatsari (Chaturthi Paksha), Varasiddhi Vinayaka Vrat, and related regional observances.

August 28 (Thursday): Banks in Bhubaneswar and Panaji will remain closed for Ganesh Chaturthi (Second Day) / Nuakhai.

August 31 (Sunday): All banks across India will observe their regular weekly holiday.

Alongside banks, financial markets will also observe a holiday on August 27 for Ganesh Chaturthi, with both BSE and NSE remaining closed. Traders and investors are advised to plan their transactions in advance.

Transactions During Bank Holidays:
While branch operations may be affected, digital banking ensures that customers can continue transactions. Online and mobile banking, ATMs, and UPI payments remain available even during holidays. However, transactions involving cheques or promissory notes will not be processed, as these fall under RBI regulations.

Officials advise customers to check with their local bank branches for any additional regional closures or schedule changes to plan urgent transactions effectively.
