Bank of Maharashtra convenes 133rd SLBC Meeting
Bank of Maharashtra, Convener of the State Level Bankers’ Committee (SLBC) for Maharashtra State, convened the 133rd SLBC meeting on Dec 30, 2016 in Mumbai. Shri Ravindra Marathe, MD and CEO of Bank of Maharashtra and Chairman, SLBC, presided over the meeting. The meeting was attended by eminent people from the Finance and Agriculture, Minorities Development, Planning, Rural Development and Maharashtra State Rural Livelihoods Mission departments from the Government of Maharashtra. Mr. J.M. Jivani, Regional Director, Nagpur, Reserve Bank of India, Dr. R.N. Kulkarni, Chief General Manager, NABARD and other member banks and Lead District Managers were also present.
Shri Ravindra Marathe addressed the meeting, initiating a discussion on how the banking industry as a whole was passing through a challenging time. New licenses are being given by RBI to microfinance companies and new generation private banks for mobilizing the savings of people, to better invest them and provide opportunities for asset development of the country. He also spoke about demonetisation, and the government’s impetus to move towards a cashless society. He appealed to those gathered to promote schemes like Garib Kalyan Yojana for customers and Digi Dhan Vyapar Yojana for merchants, and to educate people around them about the benefits of going cashless.
Presentations were made on the strengthening of the self help groups (SHG) in Maharashtra, performance of Rural Self Employment Training Institutes (RSETIs), the strategy on doubling farmers’ income and the Digi Dhan Mela in Maharashtra to drive digital payments in India. ‘Area Based Schemes’ a book written and published by Corporate Planning Department, NABARD, Pune, was also released at the meet.
