Baramati Town Planner Arrested for Accepting Rs 1 Lakh Bribe

Pune/Baramati, 20th March 2025: The Pune unit of the Maharashtra Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested a town planner in Baramati on Wednesday (March 19) for allegedly demanding a bribe of ₹1 lakh to approve a construction project. A case has been registered against him at Baramati City Police Station under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
Accused Identified as Town Planner Vikas Dhekale
The arrested officer has been identified as Vikas Kisanrao Dhekale (50), a town planner with the Baramati Taluka Municipal Council. The complainant, a construction professional, had submitted a proposal for B Wing 1 of the Vihar Building in Rui, Baramati. To approve the project, Dhekale allegedly demanded a ₹2 lakh bribe.
ACB Catches Accused Red-Handed
Following the complaint, the Pune ACB verified the allegations and found that, after negotiations, the bribe amount had been settled at ₹1.75 lakh. Acting on this information, ACB officials laid a trap and caught Dhekale red-handed while accepting the first installment of ₹1 lakh.
Further investigation is underway.
