Pune, 21 February 2023: The central government has approved the expansion of the Pimpri to Nigdi and Swargate to Katraj lines of the Pune Metro project, after a delay of over a year. Both extended routes are included in the Prime Minister’s Gati Shakti scheme, and have received the green signal from the Network Planning Group.

The projects will now move forward for further approvals, and the report on the expanded routes will be submitted to the Union Cabinet for final approval. The delay in the project was causing the costs to increase and would make it difficult for citizens to get direct connectivity.

The Pune Metro project is eagerly awaited by the citizens and the approval for the expansion of the project will come as a relief to them. The two extended routes will cover important areas of the city and provide better connectivity to the citizens. The proposed stations between Swargate-Katraj include Market Yard, Padmavati, and Katraj, while the proposed stations between Pimpri-Nigdi include Chinchwad, Akurdi, and Nigdi.

In addition to the expansion of the Pune Metro project, two highways have also been approved in the same meeting – a proposed expressway between Pune-Bengaluru, and a new highway between Pune-Aurangabad. These projects require the approval of the Public Investment Board and the Union Cabinet.

Overall, the expansion of the Pune Metro project and the approval of the highways are positive developments for the citizens of Pune, as they will improve the connectivity and ease of travel in the city. It is hoped that the projects will gain further approvals quickly and be completed in a timely manner.
