Bhagini Nivedita Bank Brings Special Scheme for Women

Pune, March 5: Known as one of the best cooperative banks in the state, which is completely run and managed by the women, the Bhagini Nivedita Cooperative Bank is bringing an exceptional scheme for women to commemorate the International women’s day and the 44th foundation day of the bank. Here, women can get secure loan for any of their needs at a very special, discounted rate of interest. This was announced by Jayashree Kurundwadkar, Chairperson of the bank during a Press Conference held at the bank head quarter on Prabhat Road today. Revati Paithankar, Vice Chairperson and Smita Deshpande, Chief Executive Officer of the bank were also present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion Jayashree Kurundwadkar said, “On 24th March 1974, Chartered Accountant Vivek Dadhe along with his wife Meenakshi Dadhe started the bank with an intention of introducing banking to all those who were facing plenty of problems due to loans from private money lenders, especially the women from the economically weaker section of the society.”

“The bank has been successfully following the path put forth by the founders since the past four decades. To mark the 44th anniversary on March 24th, we are happy to announce the launch of ‘Utkarsha’, a limited period offer for women starting from March 8th, the international women’s day. During this period between March 8th and 24th women can avail secure loans at discounted rate of interest. Here, all types of loans, which are generally available at 11% and above would be available at specially discounted rate which is as low as 8.48% and 8.88%”, she added.

The ‘Utkarsha’ scheme would be beneficial for various requirements like home repairs, repayment of old loans, tourism, home buying, furniture purchase, buying commercial space for business, equipment and machinery needed for business, cash credit for commercial establishments. Apart from the lady account holders of the bank, the scheme is also available for all those women who do not have an account with the Bhagini Nivedita Cooperative Bank. In addition, loans disbursed under the ‘Utkarsha’ scheme will automatically provide an accident insurance cover of Rs. 1 Lac to the borrower.

About the Bhagini Nivedita Cooperative Bank – Inspired by the enormous work of Bhagini Nivedita, Meenakshi and Vivek Dadhe started in the bank in 1974. Making the women from the economically weaker section banking literate and encouraging her to use the banking services was the main objective of the bank. Though the bank is completely run and managed by the ladies, the customers of the bank include men and women both.

The bank currently has 18 branches with head office on Prabhat Road near Kohinoor Mangal Karyalaya. It has more than 50000 (fifty thousand) members. The annual turnover of the bank is about Rs.1300 Cr. The Bank has been giving 15% dividend since the past 17 years. Its gross NPA has also been less than 1%. In the near future the bank would be investing in creating its own infrastructure for digital banking services.
