Pune, 17th March 2025: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA T. Raja Singh has backed the demand of several Hindu organizations to remove Aurangzeb’s tomb from Maharashtra. Speaking at an event in Pune, he reiterated his commitment to making India a “Hindu Rashtra” and supported calls for the removal of the Mughal ruler’s tomb.

On the occasion of Shiv Jayanti, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) launched a movement to remove Aurangzeb’s tomb. Activists from VHP and Bajrang Dal have also expressed their intention to conduct a “car seva” at the site. Raja Singh endorsed this, stating, “If the government cannot remove this tomb, then we will hold a car seva there. I support it.”

Raja Singh further said, “The Hindus of Maharashtra are demanding the removal of Aurangzeb’s tomb. When will it be removed? My only resolve now is to make India a Hindu Rashtra and ensure that Aurangzeb’s tomb is no longer here. This is not just a demand from Maharashtra but from Hindus across the nation.”

Criticizing Aurangzeb, he added, “Aurangzeb imprisoned his father, killed his brothers, and destroyed temples. His tomb in Maharashtra is like a poisonous sword. Initially, only Maharashtra’s Hindus questioned its presence, but now people across the country are asking why it still exists.”

The demand to remove Aurangzeb’s tomb has sparked controversy, drawing sharp reactions from political and religious circles. Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar criticized VHP and Bajrang Dal, accusing them of disrupting harmony in Maharashtra. “VHP and Bajrang Dal have no real work left. They do not want the people of Maharashtra to live in peace. They aim to derail the state’s progress. Aurangzeb ruled here for 27 years, yet he couldn’t change anything. So what will they achieve by removing his grave?” Wadettiwar remarked.
