Pune, 24th December 2024: The Maharashtra State Transport Corporation (MSRCT) will soon begin construction of a new bus station in Shivajinagar, which will be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities based on the latest design concepts.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) will soon be signed between the Maharashtra State Transport Corporation and Mahametro for the development of a multi-modal transport hub at the location. This project will be developed on the public-private partnership (PPP) model, factoring in the entire traffic flow of the area.

The development of the multi-modal transport center in Shivajinagar has been delayed for the past three to four years. In light of this, Shivajinagar MLA Siddharth Shirole had previously raised the issue with Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. Following this, a review meeting was held on Monday, attended by Pawar, Mahametro Managing Director Shravan Hardikar, and senior officials from the Maharashtra State Transport Corporation.

The delay in the project stemmed from complications during the construction of the underground Mahametro station at Shivajinagar, which led to the temporary relocation of the ST bus station to Wakdewadi. During the Mahavikas Aghadi government’s tenure, the decision regarding the multi-modal transport center was subject to multiple changes. As a result, work on the project stalled due to discrepancies between the plans of Mahametro and the ST Corporation.

However, following the meeting, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar contacted Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik to discuss the matter, and instructions were given for the immediate signing of the MoU between Mahametro and ST Corporation. The agreement will mark the beginning of the tender process for the project, ensuring that work on the transport hub will begin without further delay.

The new multi-modal center will provide numerous facilities for passengers, including air-conditioned waiting rooms, meeting areas, and shopping centers, significantly improving the experience for travelers using ST services. Once completed, the transport hub will not only streamline connectivity between various modes of transport but will also cater to the growing needs of commuters in the Shivajinagar area.
