Car runs over man on footpath in Viman Nagar

Pune, June 28, 2016:  A 40-year-old man died after being hit by a car on the New Airport road in Viman Nagar adjacent to Sanjay Park on Tuesday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Bhimrao Malappa Malli, who lives in the house along the road.

As per information given by Airport police, the incident took place around 8 am. The car driver was speeding on the road from Viman Nagar towards the airport and lost balance over the car near a turn and went on the footpath where Malli was standing and hit him. Malli died on the spot.

The situation became tense as local residents gathered at the spot. After getting information police rushed to the spot. The car driver was trapped inside the car after it turned on the side. Police broke the glasses and brought him out.

Later a case of rash and negligent driving, and causing death due to  negligence under the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Motor Vehicle Act. Police have arrested the car driver Pandurang Balasaheb Kashid.
