Cargo Terminal Work In Pune Nearing Completion; Terminal Likely To Be Commissioned In May
Pune, 28th April 2023: The work of the newly constructed cargo terminal at the international airport is nearing completion. The terminal is likely to be commissioned in May. Due to this new cargo terminal, domestic cargo will be able to operate from Pune.
180 to 190 flights take off from Pune airport every day. 26,000-28,000 passengers travel through it every day. Also, 120 tonnes of cargo is transported per day. The Airport Authority of India has been allotted space for a cargo terminal by the Air Force.
Reportedly, some final minor works of the cargo terminal are remaining. The said work is going on fast and after these works, the terminal will be inspected by CAS. Domestic cargo traffic will be started from Pune after the inspection and permission will be given to start the cargo terminal.
Currently, the capacity of the cargo facility from Pune Airport is 25,000 tonnes. But, after the opening of the new cargo terminal, it will be possible to carry 36,000 tons of cargo per day.
Domestic cargo is running from Pune airport. However, many logistics companies still have to send their goods from Mumbai airport to international destinations. Expansion of space for cargo facility from Pune airport will also include international cities and many new domestic destinations in the cargo service. It will benefit the industrial and agricultural sectors of Pune.
