New Delhi, 24th September 2022: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken major action against the online sharing of items related to child sexual abuse. On Saturday, CBI raided 56 locations in 20 states. The operation has been named ‘Operation Meghchakra’ by the CBI.
According to reports, the raids have been conducted based on inputs received from Interpol Singapore and information obtained during Operation Carbon, carried out last year.
The CBI has taken action in respect of two cases of Circulation of Child Sexual Exploitation Material (CSEM). The initial information about people allegedly involved in sharing CSEM through different social media platforms was received from Interpol New Zealand.
Earlier in the year 2021, the CBI carried out Operation Carbon. During that time, 76 locations were raided against 83 people across the country and many arrests were made.
Through Operation Meghchakra, the investigating agency is tracing the people involved in sharing the CSEM online.
Such rackets are run at the level of an individual or even an organization. The main focus of the operation is the cloud storage facility, which allows paddlers to circulate sexual material involving minors.
