Celebrating Sporting Excellence: Felicitation Ceremony Marks 62nd Birth Anniversary of Guruvarya Gajanan Maruti Patil
Pune, 2nd May 2024: The SM Joshi Foundation Auditorium reverberated with applause as athletes were lauded on the occasion of the 62nd birth anniversary of Guruvarya Gajanan Maruti Patil. A beacon in the realm of sports, Patil was posthumously conferred with the prestigious Shiv Chhatrapati Award, commemorating his indelible contribution to athletics. The ceremony, a testament to his enduring legacy, also recognized the commendable efforts of sports coaches and players who have excelled amidst challenging circumstances.
Dr. Gauri Patil, wife of the late Gajanan Patil, established the Guruvarya Gajanan Patil Sports Foundation in his memory, fostering a platform for sports-related endeavors. Now in its third year, the foundation continues to champion the spirit of sportsmanship and excellence.
Rahul Singh, Deputy Commissioner of the Central Goods and Services Tax Department and former Olympic hockey player (1996), graced the event as the chief guest. Joining him were notable players including Shrikant Jadhav, Krishna Kumar Rane, Dutta Jhodge, Ajinkya Jadhav, and Richa Jadhav Patil.
Acknowledging outstanding achievements, athletics sports guide Ramdas Farkate, along with athletes Rohan Kamble and Sanika Roopnar, were honored with this year’s sports awards. The accolades extended to Azam Syed, Pranjal Bachche, Aishwarya Hinge, and Somati Kodak for their remarkable performances in athletics.
The proceedings commenced with a soulful welcome song by Parth Deshmukh and concluded with the melodic rendition of Pasaydan. Richa Jadhav Patil, in a gesture of gratitude, expressed her heartfelt appreciation. Dr. Deepali Godse orchestrated the program with finesse, ensuring a seamless celebration of sporting prowess.
