Chakan MIDC Waterlogging, Traffic and Parking Issues: What Uday Samant Ordered After Ground Inspection

Pune, 16th August 2026: Maharashtra Industries Minister Uday Samant on Sunday inspected roads and infrastructure in the Chakan MIDC area and reviewed issues related to traffic congestion, rainwater drainage, encroachments, parking and other civic facilities.

Following the inspection, Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi gave a detailed presentation on the problems in the Chakan industrial estate and proposed short-, medium- and long-term measures to address them.

Samant directed the concerned departments to coordinate their efforts and resolve urgent problems on priority. He also called for long-term and sustainable infrastructure planning in view of the expected expansion of industrial activity and increasing traffic in the area.

Road ownership to be identified

During the inspection, Samant visited major and internal roads, key junctions, traffic-sensitive locations, waterlogging spots, drains, encroachments and parking areas. He also sought information from officials about the condition of roads, increasing vehicular movement and its impact on industrial traffic.

Samant directed the concerned departments to identify the ownership of roads in Chakan MIDC and its surrounding influence areas. Each department has been asked to compile details of roads under its jurisdiction and coordinate with other agencies for necessary repairs and infrastructure works.

Comprehensive stormwater drainage plan proposed

Rainwater drainage was identified as one of the key issues in the industrial area. Officials were directed to conduct a comprehensive assessment of waterlogging points, drains, natural water channels and the existing drainage network and prepare an integrated stormwater drainage plan.

The plan will include construction of stormwater drains and chambers at necessary locations.
Officials also discussed measures to ease traffic congestion, including widening internal roads, improving junctions, adding lanes, making effective use of road shoulders and examining the feasibility of flyovers at critical locations.
Traffic-sensitive areas and ‘red zones’ will be identified, with priority measures planned for these locations.

Parking and encroachment issues reviewed

Parking arrangements were also reviewed during the inspection.

Large industries have been asked to make arrangements within their premises for vehicles associated with their operations and wider industrial ecosystem. Available open spaces should be systematically utilised for heavy-vehicle parking, officials were told.
Authorities have also been directed to identify designated parking and no-parking zones and ensure effective enforcement.

The officials were further instructed to identify encroachments on drains and natural water channels that obstruct the flow of rainwater and take action as per regulations. The concerned departments have been asked to conduct joint inspections and complete necessary action within stipulated timelines.

Weekly review of infrastructure works

A committee headed by District Collector Jitendra Dudi has been formed to coordinate between various departments and address infrastructure-related problems in Chakan MIDC.

The committee will review the progress of works every Friday.

Samant will also visit Chakan MIDC once every two months to inspect ongoing works and review the progress of measures being implemented to address the industrial area’s problems.

Integrated infrastructure plan sought

Samant said Chakan’s infrastructure problems should not be addressed only through temporary measures. An integrated infrastructure development plan should be prepared considering future industrial expansion, rising traffic and the needs of the local population.

The plan should take into account roads, traffic management, drainage, electricity, parking, public transport and other civic infrastructure, he said.

Chakan is one of Maharashtra’s major industrial hubs, with a large concentration of industries, workers and goods movement. Samant directed the state government, district administration, MIDC, PMRDA, Public Works Department, Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), police authorities, local bodies and industry associations to work together to ensure that infrastructure keeps pace with industrial growth.

He also directed the authorities to implement time-bound measures to address problems affecting the day-to-day operations of industries while simultaneously developing sustainable infrastructure for future requirements.

The inspection was attended by Industries Department Principal Secretary Dr P. Anbalagan, MIDC Chief Executive Officer Dipendra Singh Kushwah, PMRDA Commissioner Abhijit Chaudhary, District Collector Jitendra Dudi, Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer and senior officials from the Public Works Department, MSRDC, MIDC, police and other departments, along with representatives of industry associations from Chakan MIDC.
