Chemical-Laden Tanker Catches Fire After Overturning Near Khopoli on Mumbai-Pune Highway

Khopoli, 25th December 2024: A chemical-laden tanker caught fire after overturning early this morning near the old Mumbai-Pune Highway in the Khopoli area of Raigad District. The accident occurred around 5:30 AM at Patel Nagar, Shilphata, near the highway exit.
The tanker, travelling from Mumbai to Pune, overturned after the driver lost control of the vehicle. The chemical it was carrying, ethanol, ignited, causing a fire and significant damage to the tanker. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported.
The incident disrupted traffic on the highway for several hours. Upon receiving the alert, the Khopoli police and firefighting teams from Tata, Godrej, HPCL, and JSW rushed to the scene. The blaze was eventually brought under control.
Police Inspector Shital Raut, in charge of Khopoli Police Station, told Punekar News, “The tanker contained ethanol. There were no injuries or fatalities. The fire brigade was informed and successfully extinguished the flames. Efforts are currently underway to remove the tanker from the site.”
