Chhath Puja – Sandhya Arghya offered on Thursday

Pune – On Thursday, first offering or evening offering called Sandhya Arghya or Pehla Argh took place on river banks, ponds in various parts of Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad.

The third day of Chhath Puja is known as ‘Sandhya Argh’ as all the rituals take place in the evening. Devotees stand in water for long hours and pray for their family and loved ones. A full day fast without water is observed on the third main day of Chhath Puja.

The four days long Chhath Puja, which is celebrated to thank Sun god for peace and prosperity, began on Tuesday.

Held on the sixth day after Diwali and during the month of Kartik, women observe an austere fast over three days.

In Pune, the puja is done along riverbanks and ponds in Chinchwad, Pimpri, Ganesh Nagar Bopkhel, Warje Malwadi, Yerwada, Lohgaon, Wagholi, Nigdi, Dighi, Dehu road, Moshi.

Ex-subedar major Sant Kumar, Ex-Hony Captain Hari Narayan (62), Ex -Hawaldar RP Singh, Ex service man BK Upadhayay and many other retired soldiers are organising Chatth puja n Ganesh Nagar, Bopkhel. For the last 10 years.

Chhath also called Surya Shashti, Chhathi and Dala Chhath is a significant festival of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh but is celebrated in various other states as well. It is mostly observed by the Maithili and Bhojpuri speaking people.
