Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Teen Jumps From Hill, Parents Die While Trying To Save Him

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, 21st August 2026: Three members of a family died in a tragic incident at Khavdya Dongar in the Tisgaon area of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar on Friday after an 18-year-old boy jumped from a hill and his parents fell while attempting to save him.

The deceased have been identified as Kunal Muralidhar Chandwade, 18, his father Muralidhar Chandwade and mother Sangeeta Chandwade. The family was reportedly from the Devlai-Satara area.

According to information available, Kunal reached the hill around 10 am following an argument with his parents over his demand for a mobile phone. After learning that he was on the hill and may attempt to harm himself, his parents and local residents reached the spot and tried to convince him to return.

Muralidhar reportedly remained near his son and attempted to reason with him for around 20 minutes. Police and fire brigade personnel were also called to the spot as efforts continued to bring Kunal to safety.

However, Kunal suddenly jumped from the hill. In an attempt to catch or save his son, Muralidhar also lost his balance and fell into the gorge. Both died in the fall.

Sangeeta, who was present at the spot, reportedly jumped after witnessing her husband and son fall and also died.

The incident prompted a rescue operation involving local residents, police and fire brigade personnel. The bodies were subsequently recovered and sent for further formalities. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
