Citizens’ Complaints Lead to Tough Action Against Wrong-Side Driving and Footpath Riding in Pune

Pune, 24th April 2023: Pune Traffic police have launched a strict crackdown on offenders breaking traffic rules in the city. Police officers stationed at chronic spots in Pune are taking strong measures against individuals driving on the wrong side of the road and motorcyclists who ride on footpaths. This action has been taken in response to complaints received from citizens who have been facing trouble due to the violators.
The police have observed that two-wheeler riders often resort to using footpaths to navigate through traffic jams, particularly near traffic lights. This practice poses a significant risk to the lives of pedestrians, including senior citizens and children, who are most vulnerable to accidents.
Additionally, it also endangers the riders themselves as they maneuver their vehicles on and off the curb.
Wrong-side driving remains a persistent issue in various locations across the city, putting both the offenders and other drivers in harm’s way. While the traffic department has been working on both fronts, they have launched a specific campaign to target these offenses after receiving several complaints online and in person. This campaign will be executed in the coming days, focusing on the problematic areas within each traffic division of Pune.
The Pune city police’s official Twitter account announced the campaign, stating that there should be ‘No wrong side driving’ and ‘No driving on footpaths.’ The tweet also contained pictures showcasing the actions taken by the police to curb the violations.
In recent months, the police have undertaken several campaigns against two-wheeler silencers that violate noise pollution regulations. With this new campaign, the Pune Traffic police aim to make the roads safer for all citizens and ensure that traffic rules are followed strictly.
