He was speaking on the occasion of the distribution of the Swachh Technology Challenge and Swachh Award 2023, organized by Pune Municipal Corporation at Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Sanskrutik Bhawan. Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar, Additional Commissioner Dr Kunal Khemanar, Brand Ambassador Salil Kulkarni, Deputy Commissioner of the Solid Waste Management Department, Asha Raut and others were present.
Patil said Prime Minister Narendra Modi decided to implement a cleanliness drive in the country keeping in mind the importance of cleanliness. Through this campaign, competitions and activities were organized in various cities to make citizens participate in cleanliness activities and to convince them about the importance of cleanliness. “Through this, we are helping to clean our locality, city, colony, district, state and country,” the Guardian Minister said. He also said in Swachh Survekshan, Pune city is ranked 9th in the country and should aim to raise its ranking.
The Guardian Minister further said Pune city has a tradition of taking initiative in good activities. Therefore, good work is being done in waste elimination and management. Considering the increasing population, a large amount of waste is generated in the city. But through the latest technology, it is being processed and manufactured into vital goods. Along with the production of fertilizer and gas, electricity is being generated from the waste generated in the city colony. Waste today has become a kind of property. It has become a means of employment. Considering the journey from waste generation to waste disposal, Pune Municipal Corporation is working on this through the latest technology.
Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar said, “Pune city has a population of around 6.2 lakhs due to the new delimitation, and around 2,200 tonnes of waste is generated in the city every day. About 12 thousand employees of the Municipal Corporation are working to clean the city of Pune. Pune Municipal Corporation works to process 100 per cent of waste. The latest technology is being used for all this work. Housing institutions, hotels, etc., which generate more than 100 kg of waste, should have a waste disposal process at their level.”
Dr Kulkarni said Pune Municipal Corporation is using the latest technology to dispose of waste. Citizens of Pune city should try to dispose of the waste generated in their homes and surroundings scientifically.
On this occasion, the Guardian Minister inaugurated the solid waste management exhibition organized at Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Sanskrutik Bhawan.
