City’s Athashri Foundation helps Senior Citizens with banking services

Pune, November 12th: The sudden announcement made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, regarding scrapping of Rs.500 and Rs.1000 currency, has raised a situation where citizens are facing difficulties. Making the situation smoother for senior citizens, city based NGO ‘Athashri Foundation’ has gone a mile ahead to help the senior citizens of the city with banking services. With the long queues at the banks and ATM’s, senior citizens are unable to deposit or exchange the demonetized currency of Rs.500 and Rs.1000.

Understanding the difficulties faced by senior citizens, Sudesh Khatawkar, Executive Director, Athashri Homes had requested banks to help the aged ones. Responding to which, many private banks like HDFC Bank – Pashan branch, Kotak Mahindra and Axis Bank – Hadapsar Branch, Union Bank – Baner branch maintained separate queues to serve senior citizens with services like deposit, exchange or withdrawal of cash. While few bank representatives came to ‘Athashri Homes’ and filled withdrawal slips for senior citizens and delivered them the cash at their homes. IDBI Bank in Bengaluru, set up the counter at ‘Athashri Home’s’ premises and provided note exchange services to senior citizens.

On behalf of all the senior citizens in the city, Sudesh Khatawkar has expressed his gratitude towards these banks and their representatives. He has appreciated their efforts and support provided to the senior citizens during this lengthy process.
