Pune, 12th May 2025: Pune is experiencing an unusual spell of cloudy and rainy weather that is expected to persist until 17th May, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). This shift has resulted in a noticeable drop in both maximum and minimum temperatures, making the first half of May considerably more comfortable compared to the intense heat of April.

In April, Pune recorded a prolonged heatwave, with maximum temperatures reaching or exceeding 40°C for 13 to 14 days due to dry weather and hot winds from the north. However, since 5th May, the city has seen persistent cloud cover and intermittent rainfall, leading to cooler conditions. Over the past week, maximum temperatures in Shivajinagar have ranged from 32.8°C to 36.4°C.

IMD scientist S. D. Sanap explained, “The current weather pattern is expected to last until 17th May. Increased humidity has led to the formation of large, tall clouds, resulting in thunderstorms and rain. This has brought much-needed relief, making the first half of May notably milder than usual.”

Forecasts indicate that maximum temperatures will remain between 33°C and 35°C, with minimum temperatures hovering around 23°C to 24°C through 17th May. The IMD notes that this weather is a welcome respite for Pune residents, especially after the record heat experienced in April.
