Code Blue System Inaugurated At Sassoon Hospital in Pune, First Government Hospital In State to Have This System
Pune 8th July 2023: In a significant milestone for government hospitals in the state, Sassoon General Hospital in Pune has become the first to implement Code Blue, an innovative system designed to swiftly respond to emergencies, particularly cases of unexpected cardiac arrest. The system was officially inaugurated at an event organised in the city hospital on Friday.
Under the Code Blue system, the hospital’s emergency management system is activated, prompting a team of experts to reach the patient’s location within just two-minute time. The system will help increase the chances of saving lives, said officials. The hospital authorities said that the system will help in reducing the mortality rate resulting from incidents of sudden cardio-respiratory arrests.
With an estimated daily influx of 2,500 to 3,000 patients seeking treatment at the outpatient department, the 1,296-bed Sassoon General Hospital will now be equipped to effectively handle sudden emergencies through the implementation of the Code Blue system. Prior to its official launch, a comprehensive mock drill was conducted at the hospital two weeks ago to ensure seamless integration and optimal functionality.
To centralize the operations of the Code Blue system, a dedicated office has been established within the state-of-the-art casualty departmen. This facility will serve as the nerve center for managing emergency situations, ensuring quick response times and streamlined coordination.
In the event of an emergency, activating the Code Blue system is as simple as calling the hospital’s telephone operator at the designated number 7. Upon receiving the call, the operator promptly notifies the relevant personnel about the location of the emergency, enabling the expert team to spring into action swiftly and efficiently.
