Pune, 27th November 2024: The cold wave gripping Pune and its surrounding areas has intensified, with temperatures dropping below 10°C in many parts of the district, including Haveli taluka and the NDA region. Early on Tuesday (26th November), the NDA area recorded a minimum temperature of 9°C, marking one of the coldest mornings this season.

Across Maharashtra, several regions, including Pune, Ahilyanagar, Nashik, and parts of Vidarbha, are experiencing a significant drop in temperatures, with Pune and its surrounding areas recording even lower temperatures than Mahabaleshwar. Foggy conditions have prevailed over the last 24 hours, blanketing the district, including Pune city, and extending into the afternoons due to the continuous temperature decline.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted that the cold spell will persist over the next three to four days, with potentially more severe dips in temperature across the state, including Pune.

Recorded Minimum Temperatures Across Pune District:

-Haveli: 9.5°C
-NDA: 9.6°C
-Talegaon: 10.3°C
-Shivajinagar: 10.8°C
-Ambegaon: 10.8°C
-Malin: 10.9°C
-Pashan: 11.3°C
-Shirur: 11.5°C
-Baramati: 11.7°C
-Indapur: 12°C
-Purandar: 12.4°C
-Hadapsar: 13.3°C

Today (27th November), temperatures continued to dip, with NDA recording the lowest at 8.9°C, while Lonavala registered the highest at 17.9°C. The ongoing cold conditions have led to persistent fog across several areas, adding to weather-related challenges.

The chilly weather has also contributed to worsening air quality, as suspended dust particles remain trapped due to the fog. Areas such as University Chowk, Alandi, Nigdi, and Bhosari have reported increased pollution levels. Consequently, cases of respiratory disorders like coughs and asthma have risen, along with seasonal ailments such as colds and rheumatic issues.

Doctors have urged residents to take precautions during this cold season, particularly those with pre-existing respiratory conditions. Masks should be worn in high-pollution areas and exposure to early morning fog should be minimized to avoid health complications.
