With elections nearing, parties seem to strengthen their positions in Maharashtra state. With some members leaving NCP and joining hands with Congress.

20 November, Mumbai: On Tuesday some members of NCP (National Congress Party) as well as All India Quami Tanzeem League left NCP and entered INC ( or simply Congress) in the presence of Ashok Chavan (an Indian politician from Indian National Congress party, who served as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra state from 8 December 2008 to 9 November 2010) and Bhai Jagtap(MLA).

Dr. Hazi Zakir Shaikh, president of All India Qaumi Tanzeem, Western Maharashtra, told PunekarNews that, Munaf Hakim (ex-chairman State Minority Commission Government of Maharashtra), Aftab Shaikh (secretary NCP Minorite Department state), Umar Patel (member NCP Minority Department, Aurangabad) Mohd. Asim Shaikh (Secretary National Youth NCP), Arif Kachwala (Member state minority Department NCP) and he himself became a part of Congress party after resigning from NCP. Dr Zakir was also the Secretary of NCP Minority Department Maharashtra state. All the above are also a part of All India Quami Tanzeem League.
“Ashok Chavan Ji said that Congress will now increase in Western Maharashtra”, added Dr.Zakir Shaikh.

Earlier this year on 27th of October Tariq Anwar(former general secretary of NCP) met Rahul Gandhi and joined hands with Congress party. Two decades before joining Congress on 27 October, Anwar left Congress as a banner of revolt against Sonia Gandhi along with party stalwarts Sharad Pawar and PA Sangma on the issue of her foreign origin and formed NCP. About a month ago of announcing to join Congress Anwar resigned from NCP as NCP defended PM Narendra Modi on Rafale deal.
Tariq Anwar also held a meeting on 23 October this year with members of All India Quami Tanzeen League, of which he is the National President, and convinced them that “Congress was the only option” to oppose the wrong acts of BJP. After which he himself joined Congress in Delhi and other members joined on Tuesday in Mumbai on 20 November 2018.

On the other hand, the two parties, Congress and NCP, which had ended their 15-year-old alliance before the 2014 assembly polls, have so far held three to four rounds of talks. They are reaching out to smaller “like-minded” parties for a grand alliance in the state.

With Congress and other opposition parties trying to make a strong position in the coming elections, all these steps will surely lead them to their aim. Although an opinion poll conducted by Spick Media Network shows that Shiv Sena will be the #KingMaker in Maharashtra elections after BJP if assembly elections are to be held today.
