  • Police Inspector Ram Rajmane speaks at Svayambhu Foundation’s Talk Show on Health and Fitness of Policemen

Pune, 5th May 2016: Consistency and commitment are the keys to good health. As policemen, we all have strenuous routines. But taking care of our health is our responsibility. It not only impacts our own mental state, but also the well-being of our families and society at large, said Police Inspector Ram Rajmane. He was speaking at Isha, a talk show organised by Svayambhu Foundation to discuss the importance of health, fitness and nutrition in the lives of policemen.

Rajmane was addressing an audience full of fellow policemen and women. Other dignitaries present on the dais were renowned Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr. Rajiv Sharangpani, Siddharth Shirole – Founder, Svayambhu Foundation and Revati Borawake – curator of the show.

Rajmane elaborated that maintaining good health doesn’t require equipment. “Simple exercises like suryanamaskar, skipping and push-ups can suffice your workout routine. People also complain that they do not get time for exercise. While this is true for the police force, we must squeeze out time for at least basic exercises.” Speaking about the importance of diet, he said, “It is rightly said that only 30% of health is made in the gym, while 70% is made in the kitchen.” He suggested measures like eating on time and always carrying a lunch box to maintain regular diet.

Dr. Sharangpani spoke in detail about food habits and exercise routines. Laying out some fundamental principles, he said, “You should only eat when you’re hungry. Given your work routines, you have to often eat whatever you get your hands on. But remember that you should never curse your food. Always eat calmly, in small bites.” He also underlined the importance of deep breathing as an effective technique to reduce stress and hence, avoid further disorders like high blood pressure and heart attacks. He said that flexibility, strength and stamina are the purposes of exercise. But one should not overdo as it can cause injuries.

Siddarth Shirole stressed on the importance of the work police force does. He said, “Police are the protectors of society. Civilians can sleep peacefully in their homes because of you. The society owes a lot to you. This is a small initiative to show our care and respect.” He added that Svayambhu Foundation is committed to building skill amongst youngsters in the field of art and sports. It will continue to organise events like this that help society in different ways.

Borawake praised the fitness of Rajmane saying, “I was astonished to see his fitness levels. When I got to know that he is a policeman, I felt that our society is safe.”

The programme was compered by Priyanka Misal. Singer Jaideep Vaidya presented the Svayambhu Anthem before the discussion.
