Consumer Commission Clerk Caught Taking Bribe in Pune, Arrested by Anti-Corruption Bureau

Pune, 2nd July 2025: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday arrested a clerk attached to the District Consumer Complaints Redressal Commission for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹1,500 to “retrieve” a file that was reported missing. The accused, identified as Yogesh Dattatreya Chawandke (37), was caught red-handed near a restaurant within the premises of the new administrative building in Pune.

A case has been registered against him under the Prevention of Corruption Act, and further investigation is underway.
According to the ACB, the complainant—who met with a road accident in 2022—had filed a compensation claim with the Consumer Commission after an insurance company refused to settle the dues. During the final hearing of the case, Chawandke informed the complainant that the file related to the case was missing, and demanded a bribe of ₹2,000 to locate it and place it before the commission.

“Chawandke later agreed to accept ₹1,500 after negotiations,” said an ACB official.
Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the Anti-Corruption Bureau and lodged a formal complaint. The ACB laid a trap on Tuesday afternoon (July 1) after Chawandke informed the complainant that the file had been found and asked to meet near the cafeteria on the administrative premises.

As soon as Chawandke accepted the ₹1,500 bribe, he was caught red-handed by ACB officials.
“A case has been registered and legal proceedings have begun,” the ACB stated in its press release.

The operation was conducted under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Shirish Sardeshpande and Additional SP Dr. Sheetal Janve, with Police Inspector Praveen Nimbalkar leading the investigation.

The ACB has appealed to the public to report any incidents of corruption, assuring swift and confidential action.
