Coronavirus in Pune: COVID19 cases reach 1070 in PMC areas, 84 in PCMC

Pune, April 25, 2020: With 90 new Coronavirus positive patients till 8 pm today, the total number of cases reached 1070 in Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) areas. Last there were 980 cases. The PMC mortality rate is one of the highest in the country.

According to PMC officials, five patients died today while 13 were discharged after being cured. There are still 45 critical patients undergoing treatment in different hospitals. Till now 69 patients have died in Pune while 159 have been cured. There are 842 active patients in Pune now.


In neighbouring Pimpri-Chinchwad, three new patients have been detected, while three patients were discharged from hospitals today. The total number of Coronavirus positive patients reached 84 out of which 24 have been cured while 4 have died.

Meanwhile, Pune police have clarified that lockdown will continue in Pune.

The Union Home Ministry, Delhi has issued guidelines on keeping shops open during lockdown period as per the circular dated April 24, 2020 against the backdrop of coronavirus outbreak. The Union Home Ministry has since clarified in a newly released press note that the concessions announced by the state government will not apply to the containment zone like Pune where there are many cases of COVID19 patients.


“Due to the rapid increase in the number of corona patients in the city of Pune, the state government has included the city of Pune in the red zone. It should be noted that the circular issued by the Union Home Ministry regarding the operation of shops is not applicable in the jurisdiction of the Pune City Police Commissionerate and all the previous prohibition orders will remain in force in the future”, said Joint Commissioner Ravindra Shisve of Pune city police.
