Coronavirus Positive cases reach 501 in Pune City, 52 in Pimpri-Chinchwad

Pune, April 17, 2020: The number of Coronavirus Positive cases today reached 501 in Pune City while in neighbouring Pimpri-Chinchwad the tally has reached 52. There are 21 patients from Pune rural. Thus, the total number of COVID19 patients has reached 571 in Pune district out of which 46 people have been cured while 46 others have died.

According to Pune Mayor Murlidhar Mohol, out of 501 patients, 33 have been cured and discharged from hospitals, while 44 have died. “I have allocated Rs 4 crore from Mayor Fund for buying two ambulances, 17 thermal scanners, 2500 Personal Protection Kit (PPE), 9200 N-95 masks and 100 InfraRed (IR) thermometers. The ambulances will be used to ferry passengers from Naidu hospital to Bharati hospital and Symbiosis hospital”, Mohol tweeted.

Out of 52 patients from PCMC areas, 13 have been cured and discharged from hospitals, while one patient has died. There are eight patients from Khadki including seven from one family. The Khadki Bazaar area has been sealed for three days.

Across Maharashtra, there were 118 new COVID-19 cases today taking the state tally to 3320. A total of 31 patients were discharged from hospitals today and till now 331 COVID-19 patients have been cured and discharged after full recovery across the state.

Deaths: There were 7 COVID-19 related deaths in the state today. Out of these, 5 deaths were recorded in Mumbai and 2 in Pune.

Other details of deaths: Out of the 7 deaths today, 5 were men and 2 women. 1 of them aged over 60 years and 6 were from the age group 40 to 60 years. 5 out of these 7 patients (71%) had high-risk co-morbidities such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma and heart disease. Death toll in COVID-19 patients has now gone up to 201 in the state.

Lab testing details: Out of 61,740 laboratory samples, 56,964 were negative and 3320 have been tested positive for coronavirus until today.

Containment Plan: As per the guidance from the Government of India, cluster containment action plan is being implemented in places where clusters of patients have been found in the state. There are 330 active containment zones in the state currently. Total 5850 surveillance squads worked today across the state and surveillance of over 20 lakh population was done.

After the first COVID-19 positive patient was found in Parbhani Municipal Corporation, the contacts of the 21-year-old patient are being thoroughly searched. 9 high-risk patients have been found and admitted at District Hospital Parbhani. 4 of this patient’s contacts have been found in Bhosri, Pune and they have been admitted in isolation wards. A containment zone has been created in the MIDC area, Parbhani and also in the area adjacent to the city under the Pingli Primary Health Centre. 41 surveillance squads are working in these areas.

Other important notes: 331 patients have been discharged till date after full recovery.  Currently, 74,587 people are in-home quarantine and 6376 people are in institutional quarantine.  Three COVID-19 patients discharged from the hospital in Buldhana: First three COVID19 patients in Buldhana were discharged from the hospital. After the first patient’s death, these three contacts were in quarantine for the last 18 days. Their follow-up tests were negative after due treatment and so they were discharged from the hospital.
