Pune, May 11, 2020: Taking into account the plight of the destitute citizens trapped in the lockdown due to the on-going Corona pandemic, CREDAI- Pune Metro has taken the initiative to lend a helping hand to the slum dwellers who reside in ‘containment zone’ at Shivajinagar.

CREDAI Pune Metro under the leadership of its President, Suhas Merchant has taken the efforts to provide essential ration and food grains to over 3000 (three thousand) poor families living in the slums in Shivajinagar area with guidance from Rubal Agarwal, Additional Municipal Commissioner and Prashant Waghmare, City Engineer.

There are a large number of slums in the highly infected area of Shivajinagar and as the needy citizens in these ‘containment zones’ are struggling to eke out a living or provide themselves with even two meals a day due to the lock down, which has been going on since a month and a half, the initiative implemented by CREDAI- Pune Metro in collaboration with the Pune Municipal Corporation is being deemed significant.

“The distribution of ration and foodgrains will allow these poor people to cook food while staying at home. The allotment of ration will be completed his week and will include wheat flour, rice, turdal, oil, salt, red chilli powder, rice flakes and turmeric among other items,” informed Tejraj Patil, representative of CREDAI- Pune Metro.

Accordingly, to give a go ahead to this scheme, a letter of credit was issued to the Municipal Corporation by the association in the presence of Akhil Agarwal, Rubal Agarwal, Tejraj Patil, Puneet Oswal and I.P. Inamdar.

“CREDAI-Pune Metro is carrying out a lot of relief work during this difficult time and this is one part of it. We have already started the distribution drive and about 500 to 1000 packets of foodgrains will be delivered daily to the slum dwellers with the help of PMC. Till date, we have allotted about 600 packets to the needy,” said Patil.
