Pune camp: The Deccan Muslim Institute, Pune’s ARS Inamdar Library is celebrating its centennial year. A series of programs have been organized throughout the year to mark the centenary year celebrations.
The inauguration of the Raja Ram Mohan Roy Library Foundation’s Children’s Corner is one such landmark event for the year. For the first time in the history of the Library, a special area has been
designated especially for the young readers of the library. This Corner has come into being through the vision and dedicated efforts of the Hon. President, Mrs. Abeda Inamdar.
The Children’s Corner was inaugurated on Monday, 31st August 2015, at 12.30 pm at the hands of Mrs.Ujwala Londhe, District Library Officer, Pune on behalf of Dr.Arun Kumar Chakraborty, Director General, RRRLF,Kolkata, Mr.Kiran Gangadhar Dhandore, Directorate of Libraries, Mumbai and Mr. D.B. Valvi, Asst. Director of Libraries, Pune.
The Hon. Secretary, Ms. Mumtaz.Z Sayyed welcomed the guests on behalf of the Institute. Mrs. Salma Momin, committee member outlined the aims and objects of the function. Mrs. Ujwala Londhe, the Chief Guest, spoke on the occasion and expressed her delight at the attractive and child friendly setup of the Children’s Corner.
The President of the function, Mrs. Abeda Inamdar addressed the school children who attended the function. She congratulated them for this facility and exhorted them to take maximum advantage of this reading section provided to them. The children were advised to use the section, which boasts of a large number of books, CDs, Online Books,Games and a delightful collection of soft toys, to improve their reading skills, increase their knowledge and awareness of various subjects, develop their e-learning skills and give wings to their imagination and creativity. She, especially, encouraged the Urdu medium students to hone their skills through Urdu story books. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by the Institute librarian, Mrs. Sana Pinitod.
This event was followed by a story telling session by Mrs. Salma Momin. Refreshments were also distributed to the children.
