Delhi Riots: Umar Khalid To Be Tried Under UAPA, Arvind Kejriwal Government Grants Approval

Pune, November 6 2020: Arrested in North East Delhi riots case, difficulties have increased for Umar Khalid. Umar Khalid will now be tried in court in the North East Delhi riots case.

The ruling Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi has approved to run a case on Umar Khalid under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).

On September 13, Umar Khalid was arrested by the Delhi Police Special Cell late night after several hours of questioning. There have been many revelations of the accused being involved in the Delhi riots. Umar is an alumnus of JNU. He has been accused of plotting the riots and provoking people for the riots. Along with this, there are many cases of sedition against him.

Delhi Police has got the approval to run a case under UAPA against Umar Khalid. The Arvind Kejriwal government has given this approval to the Delhi Police after several months of thinking and analysing the situation.

Delhi Police Special Cell alleges that Umar Khalid conspired in the riots during a meeting in Jamia Nagar along with former councillor Tahir Hussain and Rajdhani Public School owner Faizal Farooq. In this meeting, Umar took the responsibility of collecting money to incite the riot. After this, the fund was raised and provided to Tahir Hussain and other rioters.

Umar Khalid is facing many serious allegations

Umar Khalid, accused in the Delhi riots, is accused of starting the work of inciting people across the country against the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) from January itself.

Umar went to many states and tried to provoke the students. It is also alleged that a few days before the riots started in Delhi, he held a confidential meeting in Zakir Nagar. The meeting included Tahir Hussain, United Against Hate founder Khalid Saifi, Rajdhani Public School owner Faizal Farooq etc. In the meeting, Umar Khalid had given funding assurance to Tahir and on the next day, funding of crores of rupees was made through PFI.
