‘Dhoom’ style robbery gang busted by Pune Crime Branch

Pune – Sleuths from Crime Branch unit 3 of Pune city police have arrested five persons and recovered Rs 24.12 lakhs out of Rs 27.59 lakhs looted from two employees of a petrol pump.

The incident had taken place on March 26 on Bibvewadi-Kondhwa road. Police officials said that the accused persons had recced the petrol pump and route taken by their employees to go to bank for depositing cash.

According to police, the accused persons were inspired by Dhoom film for the robbery. They had stolen bikes to use in the crime. When the petrol pump employees were going in a car to deposit the cash,one of the accused followed them from the petrol pump and informed his two accomplices who blocked the car, threatened the employees with sharp weapon and escaped with cash bag. Later they changed clothes and bikes to escape to Karnataka.

Police have recovered a car and four two-wheelers from the accused persons possession.

Police have also arrested father of one of the accused as he had hidden the cash. Based on CCTV footages, police have arrested Ahmad Anwar Sayyed (22), Saqib Mehboob Chaudhary alias Latif Bagwan (20), Tausif alias Mohsin Zameer Sayyed (23), Suraj alias Mota alias Dastgir Shamshuddin Yalgi (19) and Zameer Ahmad Hussain Sayyed (59), all residents of Santoshnagar in Katraj.

Investigation team included police inspector Sitaram More, and policemen Sandip Talekar, Kalpesh Bansode, Sujit Pawar, Sandip Rathod, Atul Sathe and others.
