Diveagar Tragedy: Five Winners Academy Members Booked for Negligence
Pune, 22nd October 2026: Five members of Winners Academy in Alandi have been booked for negligence following an inquiry into the drowning of eight students at Diveagar beach in Raigad district.
The accused have been identified as academy founder and teacher Amar Gotiram Adak (29), Mrunal Suresh Narkhede (30), Saba Mehboob Inamdar (27), Shilpa Amar Adak (27) and Vaishnavi Mrunal Narkhede (28). All five are residents of Alandi Devachi in Khed taluka of Pune district.
The case was registered at Dighi Marine police station following a complaint by Yuvraj Babanrao Vahile (42), a resident of Kelgaon in Khed taluka.
According to the complaint, the accused had told students of Class XI that they would be taken on an educational trip to Raigad Fort and Shrivardhan beach. However, the trip was allegedly not planned properly. Despite the ropeway at Raigad Fort being shut, the students were charged for the facility and taken to the fort via the steps, the complaint stated.
Instead of the scheduled destination of Shrivardhan beach, the students were allegedly taken to an isolated stretch of Diveagar beach.
The complaint further alleged that the accused knew the students could not swim but failed to provide them with safety equipment. They allegedly allowed the students to enter the sea to play and also went into the water themselves.
Unable to gauge the sea conditions, eight students, including the complainant’s son, drowned, according to the complaint.
Assistant police inspector Santosh Awati of Dighi Marine police station is conducting further investigations.
