New Delhi, 22nd April 2024: Domestic air traffic reached a new milestone on Sunday. On that day, a record 4,71,751 travelers took the Air Travel. Sunday’s air traffic was 14% higher than the pre-COVID average of 3,98,579 passengers. According to the Civil Aviation Ministry, the total number of domestic air travelers on April 21 (Sunday) was 4,71,751 with a total of 6,128 flights operated on this day. This figure is higher than the domestic air traffic recorded on April 21, 2023, which saw 428,389 passengers and 5,899 flights.
The ministry stated in a post on the internet media platform, X, that India’s domestic aviation sector is reaching ‘new heights every day.’ Last week, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) had said that in the January-March quarter, domestic airlines carried 391.46 lakh passengers, compared to 375.04 lakh during the same period last year.
Compared to the previous year, there has been a 16% increase in the number of passengers at Mumbai Airport in the fiscal year 2024. The Director of Mumbai Airport reported on Monday that the number of passengers in the fiscal year 2024 increased to 5.28 crores. In the previous fiscal year, which ended in March 2023 at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, the number of passengers was 4.39 crores.
