Pune, 26th August 2026: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has seized suspected amphetamine and MDMA worth around Rs 3.41 crore from a woman passenger at Pune Railway Junction and arrested her in connection with the alleged smuggling of narcotic drugs, officials said.

Acting on specific intelligence, officers of the DRI’s Pune Regional Unit, under the Mumbai Zonal Unit, intercepted the passenger in the early hours of August 25. The woman was travelling from Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station in Delhi and was passing through Pune, the agency said.

“Based on specific intelligence, DRI officers mounted surveillance and identified and intercepted the passenger at Pune Railway Junction,” the agency said in a statement.

A detailed search of her baggage led to the recovery of 2,532 grams (gross weight) of a white/yellow-coloured crystalline substance purported to be amphetamine and 878 grams (gross weight) of tablets of different colours purported to be 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), the DRI said.

The total value of the suspected narcotic substances was estimated at approximately Rs 3.41 crore.

The drugs were seized under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and the passenger was arrested, the agency said. Further investigation is underway to establish the source and intended destination of the drugs and identify others who may be involved.

The DRI said the operation was part of its intelligence-led enforcement against the smuggling and trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.

“This operation underscores DRI’s commitment to intelligence-led enforcement against the smuggling and trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances,” the agency said, adding that such action was aimed at curbing the illicit supply of drugs and contributing to the government’s Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan.
