Pune, 24 April 2024: A dispute over rising electricity bills escalated into a fatal attack, claiming the life of a female employee of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) at the power substation in Morgaon, Baramati. The shocking incident took place around 11 am.

The assailant, identified as Abhijeet Pote from Morgaon, allegedly launched a violent assault on Rinku Ram Thite, with a chopper (koyta). Despite immediate medical attention, Thite succumbed to her injuries during treatment at Sahyadri Hospital in Pune.

According to police reports, the confrontation stemmed from Pote’s dissatisfaction with the handling of his complaint regarding high electricity bills. Approximately eight days prior to the incident, Pote had lodged a formal complaint at the power substation, urging authorities to inspect his electricity meter promptly. Feeling neglected, Pote’s frustration boiled over, leading to the deadly altercation.

Assistant Police Inspector Nagnath Patil of Supe Police Station is spearheading the ongoing investigation into the incident. Meanwhile, Pote has been arrested and faces charges in connection with the attack.
