EV Demand Declines in February 2025 – Sales Figures of Tata, MG, and More Revealed

New Delhi, 10th March 2025: The Indian automotive market sees millions of car sales every month, with electric vehicles (EVs) contributing significantly. Here’s a look at EV sales in February 2025, year-on-year (YoY) performance, and the top 5 manufacturers in the segment.
Drop in EV Sales
According to a recent report, a total of 8,969 units of electric cars were sold across the country during February 2025. On a year-on-year basis, a decline of more than 20% has been registered in this segment. On a month-on-month basis, more than a 20% decline has been registered in the sale of electric vehicles in the last month.
Tata Motors Retains the Top Spot
Tata Motors continues to be the leading EV seller in India. However, according to the data, the company’s sales have declined by more than 24 percent on a year-on-year basis. The company sold 3825 units in February 2025. Whereas before this, this number was 5047 units in February 2024. The company offers Tiago, Tigor, Punch, Nexon, Curve as electric vehicles.
MG Motors Ranked Second in EV Sales
British automaker MG Motors also continues to sell electric cars across different segments in India. However, February 2025 was not particularly strong for the company. Last month, MG sold 3270 units. Whereas before this, in February 2024, this number was 4237 units. The company’s sales have declined by more than 22 percent on a year-on-year basis.
Hyundai Secures the Third Place
Hyundai recorded a significant increase in EV sales compared to last year: Hyundai sold 738 units during the last month. Before this, the company had sold 321 units of electric vehicles. Hyundai offers Ioniq-5 and Creta in the electric segment.
Mahindra Follows the Fourth Place
Mahindra, another key player in India’s EV market, saw a substantial decline in sales. During the last month, the company sold 478 units. Whereas before this, in February 2024, this number was 688 units. According to the data, the company has experienced a decline of more than 30 percent in sales on a year-on-year basis.
BYD’s EV Sales Also Drop
BYD also provides cars in the electric vehicle segment. Last month, BYD sold 254 units. Whereas before this, in February 202,4 this number was 313 units. According to the data, BYD also saw a decline of more than 18 percent in sales.
