Pune, 10th February 2025: In a dramatic turn of events, initial reports of the alleged kidnapping of Former Maharashtra Minister Tanaji Sawant’s son were addressed in a joint press conference by Sawant and Joint Commissioner of Police Ranjan Kumar Sharma. The incident, which sparked a high-profile investigation, has now been clarified as a possible case of miscommunication.

JCP Ranjan Kumar Sharma stated, “Police Control room received information around 4 pm about a potential kidnapping of Tanaji Sawant’s son. All teams were immediately activated, and emergency information was gathered.” He added that the young man had departed from Pune International Airport, and efforts were underway to confirm his destination and arrange his return.

Sharma further explained, “A kidnapping case has been registered at Sinhagad Road Police Station, and Pune Police’s Crime Branch is investigating. The entire system is working towards rescuing and bringing him back.”

However, Tanaji Sawant provided a different perspective on the situation. “Kidnapping or missing is not confirmed yet. He’s with two of his friends, and nobody is unknown,” Sawant clarified. He expressed concern about the lack of communication, stating, “In our family culture, we always inform each other wherever we are going. This time we were not informed, which is why I got concerned.”

Sawant revealed that he learned about his son’s departure from his driver, who had dropped him at the airport. “They have taken a private chartered plane, and it’s yet to land. We are waiting as of now,” he added.

The case gained significant attention due to Sawant’s status as a former minister. The joint press conference was held to address earlier reports of kidnapping and provide clarity on the ongoing situation.
