Excise Sub-Inspector Injured in Hit-and-Run During Illegal Liquor Raid in Pune

Wagholi, 18th January 2025: A sub-inspector from the Maharashtra State Excise Department was injured in a hit-and-run incident while conducting an operation against illegal country liquor transportation in Bhawadi Village near Wagholi on the Pune-Ahilyanagar Highway. The incident occurred as the officer attempted to intercept a tempo suspected of carrying illicit liquor.
Vishal Kadam, 30, the injured sub-inspector, filed a complaint at Wagholi Police Station under the Pune City Police Commissionerate. According to the police, Kadam was conducting a raid in Bhawadi Village after receiving information about illegal liquor being transported in a tempo.
As Kadam tried to stop the suspicious vehicle on the road, a car approaching from behind struck his motorcycle, causing him to fall onto the road. Amid the commotion, the tempo driver, who was the target of the raid, fled the scene with the vehicle containing the alleged illegal liquor.
The car driver responsible for hitting Kadam also escaped under the cover of darkness, leaving the injured officer on the road. The Wagholi Police have registered a case against two unidentified individuals in connection with the incident. Police Sub-Inspector Vaijnath Kedar is leading the investigation.
