Dr. Bipin Vibhute – Liver and Haepatobiliary surgeon while referring to a recent rare case said, “A 9 year old boy, Naitik Upadhyay from West Bengal was suffering from Wilson’s Disease. It’s a rare inherited disorder that causes copper to accumulate in your liver, brain and other vital organs. Normally, in human body the copper is absorbed in certain amount from what we eat and then excess is excreted through a substance produced in liver. However, when a patient is suffering from Wilson’s disease, his body is not capable of eliminated this copper properly and due to accumulation it creates possibility of life-threatening for the patient. In case of Naitik, this genetic disease was detected a year ago. When his family consulted me they were advised to go for liver transplant. From our side we had assured the family for best support.
Sahyadri Hospitals salutes the fighting spirit of the child as well as his parents, who have successfully fought the disease and have set an example for many others, giving a strong message that one should not get bogged down by the hurdles. With right support & good treatment one can overcome the disease.
