Shivajinagar, 12th December 2024: A spray bottle containing gas exploded on a Vada Pav cart in front of Gate No. 3 of Shivajinagar Court in Pune, injuring three people including a policeman. The incident occurred around 2:30 pm today, and a case has been registered at Shivajinagar Police Station.

The injured individuals include Govind Ankushe, a worker on the cart, Cart Owner Santosh Sonawane and Police Constable Nilesh Subhash Darekar from Wakad Police Station. They suffered burns on their faces and hands. The police personnel had come to Shivajinagar Court for legal work related to police administration. Afterwards, they stopped at the cart to buy tea when the spray bottle used for filling gas in cigarette lighters exploded.

Three other people were also injured in the blast. It is suspected that the explosion occurred due to steam from the grill used to fry the Vada Pavs, which heated the bottle. All of the injured were immediately admitted to the hospital. Following the incident, the police began removing unauthorized stalls and handcarts from the area.

Senior Police Inspector Nivrutti Kolhatkar, in charge of Wakad Police Station, stated, “The hand and face of Constable Darekar were burned, and he was rushed to the District Hospital in Aundh. He has since been discharged and is stable.”
