Exponential Surge In Conjunctivitis Cases Sweeps State, Pune District Most Affected

Mumbai: 22nd August 2023: The State Health Department reported a concerning surge in conjunctivitis cases over the past few days. According to the reports, in the 11 days from August 10 to 20, more than 1 lakh citizens of the state have been infected with conjunctivitis cases. Among these, most patients have been found in the Pune district.

With the onset of August, the state witnessed a dramatic uptick in patients suffering from eye problems. According to the reports, a total of 462,606 patients were diagnosed across the state. Between August 10 and 20, an alarming 104,741 individuals with conjunctivitis were reported in the state. The single highest day of reported cases was August 11, with a staggering 33,073 patients. Within this, the most 45,865 patients were found in Buldhana district.

The surge on August 11 marked a significant surge, as the highest concentration of cases was recorded on that day. Similarly, on August 12 (9,267 patients), August 17 (20,287 patients), August 18 (14,172 patients), and August 19 (5,626 patients), cases were reported in the state.

Among the districts, Pune has seen the highest increase in epidemic patients, registering 9788 cases of disease in the last 11 days. In a similar way, other districts were also affected, albeit to varying degrees, such as Amravati (6,724 cases), Jalgaon (5,930 cases), Nanded (5,548 cases), Chandrapur (5,292 cases), and Parbhani (4,620 cases). Remarkably, the Ulhasnagar municipal area reported a mere 16 cases, the lowest in the state.

The rising alarm over the epidemic has prompted swift action from the Municipal Corporation and the Public Health Department of the state. They have taken a slew of measures to address the situation and have issued a comprehensive advisory, urging citizens to adopt preventive measures against the disease.
