Fact Check: That viral video of shops closed for 3 days is not of Pune: Police

Pune, March 30, 2020: A video went viral today in the evening in which a policeman was seen announcing that for the next three days all shops except medical stores, will be closed.

The video was widely shared by people on WhatsApp in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, as a message accompanying the video stated that the video is of Pune.

However, Joint Commissioner of Police (Law & Order) Ravindra Shisve issued a video in which he clarified that this video is not of Pune. “During the lockdown period, all shops engaged in providing in essential commodities will remain open as per government directive”, Shisve said.

Officials said that the video is of another district in Western Maharashtra where many cases of Coronavirus positive have detected.

It was not only people in Pune who thought that this video was true but even a policeman of Vimantal (Airport) here believed and started announcing on mike the same thing. Now an enquiry has been ordered against him as he believed a fake video and made announcements on mike.
