Pune, 15th October 2026: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has asked BJP corporators in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad to make special efforts to ensure an 80% voter turnout in the Pune division graduates’ and teachers’ constituencies elections to the legislative council, warning that their performance would be reviewed before they are considered for future positions.

“If you come to me seeking a post tomorrow, I will first look at your report card. I will review how much work you have done and how you have performed before taking any further decision,” Fadnavis told corporators at a meeting in Pune.

The meeting was organised in view of the upcoming legislative council elections and was attended by BJP corporators from the Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad municipal corporations, along with party members of the Pune zilla parishad.

Fadnavis stressed that the BJP had a strong organisational presence in Pune and needed to reach every eligible voter, given the distinct electoral process in the graduates’ and teachers’ constituencies. He urged party representatives to remain available for election-related work and focus on increasing voter participation.

“Eighty per cent voting takes place in the Konkan division. Why can’t Pune city achieve the same?” he asked.

The chief minister pointed out that former Union minister Prakash Javadekar and state minister Chandrakant Patil had earlier represented the Pune graduates’ constituency. The BJP lost the previous election but had an opportunity to regain its position this time, he said.

Union minister of state Murlidhar Mohol, higher and technical education minister Chandrakant Patil, public works minister Shivendraraje Bhosale, rural development minister Jaykumar Gore and minister of state for urban development Madhuri Misal were among those present, along with BJP MLAs, mayors, standing committee chairpersons, floor leaders and corporators.

The meeting also saw the attendance of corporators who had skipped an earlier campaign launch for the BJP candidates in the Pune division graduates’ and teachers’ constituencies, held in the presence of state BJP president Ravindra Chavan.

Around 100 corporators had reportedly remained absent from that event and were issued show-cause notices. Most attended the meeting convened by Fadnavis, while four to five were absent after obtaining prior permission.
