Farah Khan Calls Holi A Festival of ‘Chhappris’, FIR Registered

Mumbai, 23rd February 2025: Bollywood filmmaker and choreographer Farah Khan made a derogatory comment about the Hindu festival of Holi and called It a festival of chappris. At the same time, her remarks have sparked anger and been accused of hurting religious sentiments. This ended up with a complaint filed against her.
The complaint was filed by Vikas Fhatak, popularly known as Hindustani Bhau, through his counsel advocate Ali Kashif Khan Deshmukh. According to media reports, the complaint was filed at Khar police station on Friday, seeking legal action against Farah for her controversial statement made during an episode of the television show Celebrity MasterChef on February 20.
In the complaint, Hindustani Bhau claimed that Farah Khan described Holi as a “festival of chhapris” and that the term is widely considered derogatory. Hindustani Bhau also said that Khan’s remarks had hurt his religious sentiments and that of the larger Hindu community. Advocate said “My client says that this comment made by Farah Khan has insulted the religious sentiments of Hindus. The use of the word ‘Chhapri’ to describe a holy festival is highly inappropriate and has the potential to create communal tensions”.
Farah Khan is currently a judge on Celebrity MasterChef. She commented on Holi, after which she came under fire from netizens. Farah said that Holi is the favorite festival of all chhapri people. Explain that the word “Chhapri” is considered a casteist slur. For this, Khan is being trolled a lot on social media.
This comment of hers has increased the comments against her, one user wrote, “I never wanted to drag my favorite actor Shah Rukh Khan and Bollywood into this shitty drama, but Bollywood keeps mocking our tradition. If Holi is for chhapris, then why did Farah Khan show SRK celebrating it in Om Shanti Om? She also choreographed “Soni Soni” in Mohabbatein where SRK, Aish, and Big B celebrated Holi. If she believed this then why did she portray Holi in such iconic films? Why
this hypocrisy now? Bollywood had no problem showcasing Holi before so what changed Farah?”Some also supported Farah by giving this statement an angle of women’s safety irrespective of religion and Farah tried to point out the harassment women face during this festival.
